DING AND DENT REPAIR FAQ'S

Q: Do you suck the dent out?

A: This is often the myth. No we don’t; we access the rear of the dent and with specially created rods massage the dent out to its original state.

Q: Will the paint crack?

A: No. Paint is far more flexible than you would imagine and we massage the panel with no damage. If the area looks like paint damage would result you would be informed before we continue.

Q: Will it look any worse?

A: No. If it cannot be repaired we will tell you.

Q: Will it be totally invisible?

A: If the dents are within the parameters of PDR then you will not be able to see where it was. It some circumstances it is possible to see a glimmer of where it was.

Q: Do you have to strip or remove any interior panels?

A: Depending on location of dent it is sometimes required to access the rear of the dent. It is however rare that we need to but if we do it is not a problem as our technicians are trained to do this.

Q: I have been told you have to drill holes to access the rear of the dent, Is this correct?

A: Occassionally this is correct however we would always seek permission from you first. A hole is no larger than 10mm and is in a concealed area that is sealed with a blanking grommet after. Most cars already have these for us.

Q: Do you guarantee the dent repair?

A: Once the dent is gone it will not re appear unless struck again. Guaranteed!

Q: What’s the mirror/Line board used for?

A: This is a guide for us so we can read the reflection and movement of the panel while we massage the dent. This allows us to push within half a mm from the rear of the panel thus giving pinpoint accuracy.

Q: Do you have to heat the panel or dent?

A: This is often in cold weather only or if the dent is quite deep in relation to its diameter, Heating the area can make the metal and paint a little more supple to massage thus aiding a better repair.

Q: How long has this process been around?

A: This has been around for around 25 years however it is only over the last 15 that the system has really taken off in the UK.

Q: How long have your technicians been doing PDR?

A: We have technicians who have been doing PDR for over 15 years now and still with new vehicles we constantly train and develop new tooling.

Q: How long is the training for your Technicians?

A: Training is a minimum of 4 months’ training every day and practicing on an old panel. Our technicians do not work on ANY vehicle until they meet the correct standard.

ALLOY WHEEL REPAIR FAQ'S

Q: Can you match the colour of my wheel?
A: Yes, we can repaint the wheels to any colour you like.

Q: Can you repair corrosion on an alloy wheel?
A: This is not a common practice and corrosion will always return at some point.

Q: Do you have locking wheel nuts?
A: No. You must ensure you have these when we arrive as we will need to remove the wheel from the car regardless of the size of the damage.

Q: Why do you need a power supply?
A: All our paint and wheel vans require a power supply to carry out a repair. We have long extension leads ready. But we will advise you upon booking.

Q: Should I have the wheels cleaned before the repair/refurbishment?
A: Yes. This will greatly aid the quality and efficiency of the repair.

Q: Can you repair diamond cut wheels?
A: Yes in certain circumstances. Photos are required in advance of us visiting you so as not to waste your time or ours.

Q: How do I know if my wheels are of a diamond cut nature?
A: If the wheel is of a highly polished mirror-like finish there is a good chance of this. If you look closely at the wheel and if you can see lots of tiny scores in the metal (similar to a traditional vinyl record) then it will be Diamond Cut. It is these markings that are created when the wheel is on a lathe. We would estimate that it is less than 10% of alloy wheels that are Diamond cut and they are usually on top end prestigious vehicles only.

Q: Can you change the colour of the wheels?
A: Yes. However, for a perfect result we would like to either take the wheels away or you bring them or the car to us. This way we can remove the tyre and ensure the wheel is fully repainted and not just the fascia.

Q: Can you repair the rear of the wheel?
A: Yes

Q: Can you repair buckled or cracked wheels?
A: No but we can organise this for you through a partnership company. In many circumstances we do advise you replace the wheel due to safety reasons.

Q: Can you repair split rims?
A: Yes in most cases.

Q: How soon after the repair can I drive the car?
A: As soon as we are finished you are able to drive it but we advise you leave it for a few hours.

Q: How long will the repair take?
A: This is the ‘how long’s a piece of string?’ question! The answer is dependent upon the size of the damage and of the wheel. We can say that a simple, standard repair such as that shown on our alloy wheel page will be approximately 1hour. For more than 1 wheel, the repair time is usually reduced for the second, third etc.

Q: How long does it take to dry?
A: Fully hardened – 48 hours although touch dry, 30 minutes.

PAINT REPAIR FAQ'S

Q:How do you match the colour of my vehicle?
A:On every vehicle there is a chassis plate and on this is a simple code for the paint. We take this code and put into our laptop where we get the formulation directly from the paint manufacturer who created this for the vehicle manufacturer. We then mix this exact formulation in our fully equipped vehicle.

Q:How soon after the repair can I drive the car?
A:As soon as we are finished you are able to drive it.

Q:When can I wash the car?
A:It is recommended that you leave this for 48 Hours. Whilst the paint is touch dry it will still be curing for a little while longer. Avoidance of moisture and pressure washers is strongly advised to help prevent any faults occurring.

Q:How long will the repair take?
A:This is the ‘how longs a piece of string?’ question! The answer is dependent upon the size of the repair and location. We can say that a simple, standard bumper scuff such as shown on our Chip ‘n Scuff page will be approximately 1hour.

Q:How long does it take to dry?
A:Fully hardened – 48 hours although touch dry in 30 minutes.

Q:Can we paint bonnets or roof panels?
A:In certain cases – yes – although damage to these areas generally does not fall under the measurements as a cosmetic repair. We can recommend local body shops if not.

Q:Can you repair rust?
A:It can however we try to avoid it as in our experience it will always come back but it’s just a question of when! We will not offer any warranty with any rust repairs.

Q:Can you repair cracks in the bumper?
A:We do a form of plastic welding however the bumper must all be joined (i.e. not in 2 or 3 parts). We do advise that in some circumstances the vibrations can reopen the crack at a later date depending on the severity of the damage.

Q:I have lacquer peeling on my car. Can you fix it?
A:This sounds like it has had a poor repair in the past and that the area was not prepared correctly. We would need to assess to give you a firm answer.
